In case you didn’t already know this, Kansas has amazing sunsets! You can enjoy them from atop a beautiful trail (and yes, there are many of these too), but what better way to enjoy the beautiful skyline than from the outdoor dining patio of a great restaurant with a frosty beverage in your hand. Check out our recommendations here for the best outdoor eating in Manhattan!
There are many reasons why I love AJ’s. Let’s face it, they’ve got delicious pizza and cute little street signs they hand you so the server knows where to find you when your pie is ready. Who could resist? But I gotta tell ya, my favorite thing about this place is their patio, specifically on Wednesdays. Every hump day AJ’s hosts Paws on the Patio with Purple Power Animal Welfare Society where you can bring your pup and enjoy your pizza…on the patio. Show up with your furry friend, stuff your face and you might just leave with a furry friend for your furry friend.
Right and Up Tip: The Doctor’s Delight – Italian Sausage, Pork Sausage, Peppers, and Green Onions.
Right in the middle of downtown Manhattan is Tap House; a multi-level mega restaurant and brewery with a bonus rooftop bar! This is typically one of the stops I make for after-dinner drinks to hang out with friends while enjoying one of their many craft brews and seasonal beers. The rooftop provides a great view of the downtown’s trendy main street and the Flint Hills.
Right and Up Tip: Halcyon (Unfiltered American Wheat). Ok, I lied…I pick them all.
Aside from being one of my favorite restaurants period in Kansas, Taco Lucha also has a quirky outdoor dining patio with a fireplace that is just fan-friggin-tastic, especially once the weather warms up.
Right and Up Tip: You’ve gotta try every taco on the menu. Wash it down with their signature drink “The Nancy,” which is a mixture of Old Milwaukee and pineapple juice. Believe me, it’s delicious, and even the roughest and toughest guys I know order it shamelessly.
This place used to be in downtown Manhattan but has moved to the West side by the Colbert Hills Golf Course. I’ve been here a few times with groups and it’s great! Enjoy any of their 30+ craft beers from their outdoor dining area complete with fire pits for us thin-skinned folk. This place always has great energy and is typically packed on the weekends, but with an extensive menu to choose from, I recommend you just make a night of it.
Right and Up Tip: Take part in one of their many beer drinking challenges to earn prizes!
In my opinion (IMO for you millennials), this golf course has some of the best views in Manhattan…they’re really sub-par! (that’s a golf reference…below par is better than above par…yes, I need to over explain all of my jokes). Don’t tell anyone, but I watched the Wamego 4th of July Fireworks show (largest in the state) from atop one of their holes. Stop by their restaurant between rounds and enjoy lunch and a few more beers (I’m assuming you’ve already consumed a few on the front 9) from their clubhouse outdoor dining patio. A beautiful pergola keeps you shaded when it gets miserably hot in the summer.
Right and Up Tip: Enjoy a military discount on their Par 3 Course ($9 one round or $11 unlimited!!)
